Hello Fabulous
I know many people think that Valentines Day is about showing love to your boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife but here at Zinfinity I believe it is about Spreading the Love. Show your siblings, cousins, friends etc. that you care. Yes, this is a day to remind people that you love them. This doesn’t mean mad passion but to say ‘You matter to me,‘ ‘You are special.‘
While jewellery is always a lovely way to show this (not that I’m biased), something simple can express your feelings too. Things can be extra expensive around this time of year, so here is a simple, affordable, lovable idea.
To make a hanging heart you will need:
-
Snips (or similar to cut wire).
-
Round Nosed Pliers (this is best but long nosed pliers work too).
-
Scissors
-
Wire (I’m using coloured coated copper 0.7mm wire but virtually any wire would work, such as garden wire).
-
Beads (I’m using colouful wooden beads but any sort will do. You could cut up old jewellery or use polymer clay or air dry clay to make your own beads).
-
Ribbon (Any scraps of ribbon will work).
-
Ruler
-
Paper (ideally thick paper or thin card).
-
Pencil
-
Hole Punch
1) Get all your materials together. This makes sure you have all that you need and helps you plan.
2) Make an approximate heart shape to the size you want. These can be as big or small as you want. (The bigger the heart, the thicker the wire you will need to keep the shape.) Then cut the wire allowing an extra 5 cm approx for working with. It’s always better to have more than you need.
3) Thread your beads on to your desired pattern. I find it easier to thread both sides that the same time.
4) Once all the beads are threaded, close one end. Do this by cutting off the excess wire (allowing an extra 15mm approx of wire for the loop), make a loop with your round nosed pliers. Now with one end secured, shape your wire in to a heart. Make a loop on the other end to close (as you did before).
5) Now the heart is complete, you can add a message. I like a heart tag to carry the theme through. You can buy these or get a piece of paper/card and draw out hearts and cut them out. If you are not great at drawing hearts, use the templates on most writing and art programmes. Print and cut.
6) Write your message and tie all together with ribbon so it hangs up.
7) Give to someone you care about.
